Soul Mavericks will battle the rest of the world at the B-

The Soul Mavericks are Regional Conflict champions for the second year in a row after narrowly defeating La Familia in a closely fought final battle.
Jut Su and Polskee Hitman both qualified for popping, while B-
Like the year before, Soul Mavericks entered two crews, Soul Mavericks This and Soul Mavericks That, with their ‘This’ squad emerging victorious after defeating La Familia in the final round.
As usual, many of the crew battles didn’t get going until the later rounds, but when they did things heated up as intricate routines and power moves started to emerge.
Highlights include Foundations executing a startling camera moment when one of its breakers landed perfectly still on another dancer who was lying on his back with his feet in the air.
Tempers frayed during the same battle over a dispute about dancers executing commandos during each others routines which appeared to lose Foundations all five votes from the judges.
As the final hurdle drew near is where more routines came out of the bag, as both
crews pulled out all the stops. B-
JudgingThis year there was five judges for breaking (three for popping) as opposed to the usual three, possibly in response to calls of unfairness from spectators last year.
Five judges brings the competition in line with the likes of Red Bull BC One and
should result in a wider verdict from the panel. Interestingly, the judging results
for the crew battles were either straight 5-
Another welcome introduction was the different selection of beats played during battles with guest DJ Tyrone ‘Mr T’ from Notorious IBE switching places throughout the night with DJ Renegade.
Soul Mavericks’ victory once again puts them on the same stage as the best crews in the world in October. Qualifiers for the world finals will take place over the next few months, with the line up to be announced as winners from each of the nationals are announced.
