Dance Currents season returns for 2010 and is packed with appearances from scores of street dance, both to watch and try. This eclectic season of dance celebrating work by local, national and international companies will be enough to have dance fans queuing up for nights of dance, atmosphere and entertainment.

It's in East London where the trends are set - Dance Currents season - showcasing tailor made dance, rough-cut samples, designer one-offs and innovative must haves - bringing in a lot of big names in street dance.

Blueprint at East London DanceThe season kicks off with Blueprint – the only London showcase in which three heavy weight organisations, come together to share a mission to platform emerging talent and support artists during the early stages of their careers. Fresh from the studio, Blueprint brings the latest trends, freshest moves and rough-cut samples to the stage. The event will premiere a brand new work by Blueprint Bursary winner James Wilton co-commissioned by East London Dance, London Youth Dance and Sadler's Wells. Special guests include MJ Fusion (finalists from BBC3’s Move Like Michael Jackson), Roz Lynch (Blueprint Winner 2009 as seen on BBC1’s So You think You Can Dance) and Zoonation Youth.

Two’s A Company - a wonderfully theatrical evening, in which some of the UK's most inventive choreographers will challenge the very concept of a duet. Described by Maggie Foyer in Dance Europe in having “remarkable variety that runs from high tech to deep soul” this evening of designer 'one-offs' will stretch your imagination.

Featuring the highly acclaimed - Boy Blue Entertainment, Evolutionaries, Daniela B Larsen & Robert Guy, Impact Dance, Katie P and Renaud Wiser.

Collabo at East London DanceCollabo is back! Now in its fifth year this successful programme provides an opportunity to see some of the most highly respected hip hop artists being commissioned to collaborate and create this season's new 'must have' style.

A stellar line-up of stage and screen dance phenomenon’s, featuring: Boy Blue Entertainment (Pied Piper), Zoonation (Into The Hoods), Plague (World Hip Hop Dance Champions) Impact Dance, TK Spin, Animaineaxs (winners of Move Like Michael Jackson), Dance2XS (featuring So You Think You Can Dance’s Judge Sisco), Uchenna Dance and VOCAB Dance.

East London Dance presents Dance3, the National Dance Network’s pick of the freshest choreographic talent in the UK. In this unusual tour, three separate triple bills are coming to London with shows at three of the capital’s favourite dance venues - Linbury Studio Theatre at the Royal Opera House on 4 March, East London Dance at Stratford Circus on 25 March and The Place on 29 and 30 April.

Ballet BoyzEast London Dance is on the move and travels east, teaming up with the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch in presenting Ballet Boyz’ in The Talent.

 

Artistic Directors Michael Nunn and William Trevitt with their approachable and exciting choreography have assembled a first rate company of young male dancers aged between 18 – 25.

After the sell out success of StyleFest 09, Boy Blue Entertainment and Funk Physics Ltd, the leading lights in the UK underground dance scene, return to present this opportunistic weekender of battles, workshops and performances. Dance Currents 2010 - with it's varied programme, is unique. Each night has its own artistic vision and presents some of the most cutting edge choreography, the most inspiring collaborations, emerging talent and great opportunities to debate, battle, workshop and network – setting the trends and pushing the way forward for dance. It’s it all about creativity, innovation and style – it even has two free events that encourage anyone to pull out their own stylish moves.

 

In partnership with the London Borough of Newham, Just Dance is the hottest free dance event ever to hit the Old Town Hall. We are searching to find Newham’s best dancers – from tap dance to tango, ballroom to bollywood, and street dance to salsa – there is sure to be a style for you to shine in. The day will include performances by the stars of stage and screen, as well as homegrown talent – and a live dance band to get everyone grooving. Straight from its successful run in New York and The Contact Theatre in Manchester – Mixed Movement is now making it’s London premiere in collaboration with ADAD: Open Stage. This open mic night for dance, encourages dancers from any style to be spontaneous in a round of solos and improvised duets. (To book your open mic slot: dawndusk@me.com)

A rare opportunity to see exciting and innovative UK choreographers challenge the concept and content of a duet, and explore what it is to be two.

From disco to tango, ballroom to Bollywood and street dance to salsa – Newham’s dancefloor king or queen is going to be crowned. The day will include performances by the stars of stage and screen, the competition and a live dance band to get everyone grooving.

A mixed bill of bold and inspiring dance, with styles from ballet to breaking, by a remarkable line up of female choreographers. Drawing on influences from across the globe and around the corner, catch new work from Phoenix Dance Theatre, Ballet Black, Belgian B-Girl -Yiphun Chiem, Funmi Adewole and ADiaspora Collective.
