Sadler’s Wells 29th and 30th May
Hip hop with a twist of Brazilian flava.

Sadler's Wells has been graced with hip hop theatre at the start of May, and they're finishing the month with it too. H3 is the title of Brazilian choreographer Bruno Beltrao's latest work, premièring in the UK next weekend. Currently being hailed by the critics as the "hottest young choreographer out of Brazil," Beltrao has won awards for fusing hip hop with contemporary dance.
The promotional write ups say it will incorporate krumping, popping, and duets, and the preview videos look quite promising too, offering something for breakers as well as those coming for the classical styles.
Like other convention pushing productions at Sadler's Wells theatres there will be scenes such as interaction between the sound of dancer's trainers screeching on the floor and the soundtrack.
While it's not the first time the hip hop and contemporary styles have been fused, it's the Brazilian influence that catches our attention. Typically this conjures up images from the film City of God, since seeing the political piece by Membros at Breakin' Convention 2008, yet no details have been given away about the narrative or meaning.
Breakin' Convention may have been the main attraction this month to see established acts, but for those looking for something fresh they can grab tickets for just £10. And with tickets at such a low price, why not try something new?
