Thursday 30th July 2009 – Matter, O2

[Buy tickets] [The show that’s meant to be?]
It’s been little over a month now since the news of Michael Jackson’s tragic death broke to the world. In the weeks following, many people have staged various performances and tributes in honour of the King of Pop. There have been Flash mob performances (see box to the right) in London, Hong Kong and Stockholm; 1,500 inmates from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Centre in the Philippines (CPDRC) – best known for their interpretation of Michael Jackson’s Thriller – performed a tribute to The King of Pop within 10 hours after the news of his death had reached them. Even 30% of “tweets” on the popular social networking site Twitter were claimed to have been tributes to Michael Jackson in the days following.
Now it is time for the ultimate tribute to this Legend from within London’s O2 arena. On Thursday 30th July 2009 at Matter, 9 of the UK’s biggest and best dance companies will come together to perform dance pieces specially commissioned in honour of the late Michael Jackson. Kymberlee Jay, founder of the dance company Funk Physics and creator of the event says, “The pieces have been inspired by 6 of the top albums that we know and love from the man himself.”
Performances so far are confirmed as Off The Wall by Plague, Thriller by Avant Garde, Bad by London’s Boy Blue Entertainment, Dangerous by Kymberlee Jay’s very own Funk Physics School of Funk, Unreleased by Animaneax, Ghosts by TKSpin: Masters of Movement and Scream by Myself. Also performing are Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Flawless.
Artists Kele Le Roc and In’Sight will also be performing, while music will be hosted by DJ Excalibah.
By attending this event, audience members will not only be joining together with the cream of UK dance talent to say one last final farewell to Michael Jackson and honouring his life and the many musical inspirations he bought to each and every one of us, but they will also be helping support the charity Amnesty International.
Come Together is on Thursday 30th July 2009 at Matter, O2, Greenwich London. Tickets are £12 and can be purchased from this link.

The show that that’s meant to be?
Was Come Together’s date due to a packed venue schedule, or serendipity?

“How do I know that this show was meant to be??
After pushing really hard to hold this event on the 23rd July I finally had to accept that due to various reasons beyond my control, the Michael Jackson dance showcase would have to be held on Thursday 30th July 2009. A few days after making this change of date official, DJ Excalibah proudly showed me his ticket stub from the Dangerous Tour at Wembley Stadium (kept very securely in an envelope on his top shelf!)...after gentle handling of this document and lots of "oooohhhhing" and "aaahhhhing" I noticed the date on the ticket.... "THURSDAY 30TH JULY 1992"
...If that's not a sign, then i don't know what is!!!!”
